Lion’s Lair 2012: Today is the Gala Event!
Yes that’s right….today is the second annual Lion’s Lair Gala event where the winners of the contest will be announced….and Snappay is one of those in the running for $100,000 in cash and prizes – and we’re pumped!
And the #HamOnt Spectator, our daily newspaper covered same in a full-page spread on those top ten finalists and can be seen here too (big shout-out to Meredith MacLeod for the great reporting too!).
And a small reminder/disclaimer, that Snappay is a new mobile app that I’ve invested in and I am the CEO so it was myself that did the ”pitch” to the Lions back in late August so as you may be able to tell, I’m very proud of what the company has done in the past 5 months since our launch!

Innovation Factory’s STARTOFF KickOff!
Hello all…I thought that I’d today, give the blog posting to our #HamOnt Innovation Factory to talk about their upcoming STARTOFF event and explain how any readers can help get involved! Okay, so we’re famous. Well, maybe not quite yet…but at least someone on the other side of the video camera thought enough of our presentations on Snappay, that we got taped and here’s a few links to same for some PR publicity.

#LionsLair2012: Our Elevator Pitch Strategy
Most likely you already know what an “Elevator Pitch” is – that supposedly, it’s a short very to-the-point pitch that you give to an investor prospect in less than a minute….say the same amount of time it’d take to ride up to an office in a downtown skyscraper.
Least, that’s the thinking and what you can find all over the web….but I think – and hopefully can make the case here, that in reality an Elevator Pitch is “it!” It’s the single most important piece of early marketing that any startup founder can use to try to get interest and momentum in their new company!

Lion’s Lair 2012: WooHoo We’re a Finalist!
Big big smile here…because announced just last week, the second annual 2012 Lion’s Lair contest top ten finalists were announced – and Snappay is in!
That smile of course, is just the start of how we feel about same and by that I mean we do realize that it’s going to be dang hard to “finish in the money” of this $100,000 dollar contest, but we’re up for the challenge, eh!

Innovation Factory Floor: A Wonderful New BizHub!
Okay, first things first – as you will most likely already know, I’m very involved with our Hamilton startup community and our RIC, the MIPs based Innovation Factory over on Longwood Road. As such a supporter, it’s been my pleasure to have tried to help them keep up that “head of steam” momentum that is led by Ron Neumann and his great staff and yup, there’s something new too!
The Innovation Factory Floor is a brand new innovative co-creation space that is named the “Don Pether Business Incubation Centre” that is run in colloboration with the Xerox Centre of McMaster and it is a beautiful new business hub that is waiting for it’s new startups to join in.

A new item now on our Hamilton based Innovation Factory website is their publication of local success strories and the lead off one is of our own Snappay Founder, Lorne Lantz!
I am so proud of this young man – and yes, a reminder that I’m also involved with Snappay as their CMO and have been working hard for Lorne to help market Snappay, our mobile POS application that allows a user to charge a customer’s credit cards with no hardware!

Innovation Night Success: Oxygen & Deals!
Innovation Night is Hamilton’s key event for innovators and entrepreneurs to share and develop their ideas, practice and perfect their pitch, and present to their peers and the local innovation community…and we were there on Wednesday night for the latest rendition of same….and what night it was!
First the “pitchers” who numbered more than a dozen and we loved the variety of the startup ideas that we heard! Well, to be totally honest, as we help mentor the Innovation Night workshops that occur a week earlier and last week we were there to listen and offer advice and counsel…and that alone is a real challenge.

It’s Time to Invest in Hamilton!
Yes, it’s exactly the right time to think about our wonderful community and think investment! Money, sure, I mean money by all means, but that’s not what I’m really thinking about today…what I’m thinking about is the commitment of time – your time and in truth is there anything more valuable than time? No there is not. And here’s why, eh!
Time is the measure that we all use, to try to live, work and exist in life, and we use it haphazardly when we’re not focused I think. As one grows a bit older, and the term “been there done that” comes to the top-0f-mind position more than not – that was the time for me when time suddenly appeared to be of more import to my life than anything else.

The Mark Chamberlain DiFIZEN of the Year Award!
It’s not too often that I’m surprised anymore, as at my age I’ve about seen and done most everything when it comes to business – both as a success and as a failure too, here in our wonderful Hamilton community.
