Yes after about 2 years and a bit, last night our own Hamilton RIC (Regional Innovation Centre), our Innovation Factory opened up it’s brand new premises at McMaster’s Innovation Park and boy what a great party it was!
Filled up with local and GHTA and regional “movers & shakers” the reception was one of the best I’ve been to in years, with both politicians, angels, startups and the “usual suspects” in our community startup channel too!
It was my extreme pleasure last evening to have been invited to sit on a Panel of #HamOnt local startup entrepreneurs at an event held by Fullerton Media and a great set of Sponsors to follow the first screening of that great entrepreneurs movie “The Startup Kids!” And what a great event it was too!
The screening was open to all established and aspiring entrepreneurs in the Greater Hamilton Area and it was a documentary about young web entrepreneurs in the U.S. and Europe. Founders of Vimeo, SoundCloud, Kiip, InDinero, Dropbox, Foodspotting and many others talk about how they started their company and their lives as an entrepreneur. Innovation Factory, kitestring creative branding studio, Fullerton Media, and Mohawk College all teamed up to Sponsor the screening of The Startup Kids.
All one needs to do, is to contact Tammy of the Innovation Factory to book a seat…and it’s FREE!
Or fomore information and to Register for these totally free Workshops here’s the info you’ll need…
They are rewarding, and from past experience, they are of value for the attendants….and that get’s me to today’s post about a couple of our Strategy Workshops coming up shortly.
Note that these are TOTALLY FREE Workshops!
No cost, just Register for a seat and you (and your staff or marketing team) are going to learn!
It seems like so so long ago, when our Innovation Factory held our first Hamilton based “in house” Innovation Night competitions….twas only about 18 months ago I think…but we’ve had so many winning nights that they all stand as successful ways to hear what’s “new” in startups here in the city.
And last Wednesday night was no different as we had about a dozen competitors who competed for the two big prizes of top-of-the-line tech gadgets, Lenovo IdeaTab tablets and what a competition it was, eh!

STARTOFF Crowns 10 Winners and iF Celebrates 2 Years
STARTOFF Winners are some of over 340 Hamilton Innovators Benefitting from MEDI’s ONE Initiative
Hamilton, ON (November 2, 2012) – Over the past two months, anticipation has been building in the city around STARTOFF Hamilton, the newest competition brought to the community by Regional Innovation Centre (RIC) Innovation Factory (iF). After public outreach campaigns including a fun, start-up themed obstacle course at SUPERCRAWL, an “8-Bit Invasion” of ten stylized sculptures placed throughout the city, and the retro-videogame inspired voting platform hosted at startoff.ca, the contest has come to a close.
Lion’s Lair as all our regular readers know, is Hamilton’s answer to the CBC Dragon’s Den TV show – and we offer up a similar contest right here in #HamOnt for our own local startups to come and pitch to 5 local Lions! And what a great second annual it was this year too!
Yes that’s right….today is the second annual Lion’s Lair Gala event where the winners of the contest will be announced….and Snappay is one of those in the running for $100,000 in cash and prizes – and we’re pumped!
And the #HamOnt Spectator, our daily newspaper covered same in a full-page spread on those top ten finalists and can be seen here too (big shout-out to Meredith MacLeod for the great reporting too!).
And a small reminder/disclaimer, that Snappay is a new mobile app that I’ve invested in and I am the CEO so it was myself that did the “pitch” to the Lions back in late August so as you may be able to tell, I’m very proud of what the company has done in the past 5 months since our launch!
Hello all…I thought that I’d today, give the blog posting to our #HamOnt Innovation Factory to talk about their upcoming STARTOFF event and explain how any readers can help get involved! For basic info on our local RIC – the Innovation Factory can be found here. And the STARTOFF event that they’re running can be found here too for more info as well!
Today’s blog posting comes from Sandra Barbera, one of the great staff over at the Innovation Factory….and as you can see, as we’re one of the Sponsors of same, this came out just a few minutes ago but as you can see, it really is meant for all us #HamOnt supporters, eh!
Okay, after much thought on same, I felt that I should post here some slides from our upcoming Thursday Lion’s Lair 2012 Pitch Competition….and that in doing so, I could show you what we’re going to be presenting.
I’ve not included in the speaking scripts for same…as that would be too much to offer here…but just the screens in a “show & tell” mode. Hope you like them….
Okay, so we’re famous. Well, maybe not quite yet…but at least someone on the other side of the video camera thought enough of our presentations on Snappay, that we got taped and here’s a few links to same for some PR publicity.
Please do go and look at same, eh…I’d love to see us get like millions of views….er well at least a couple of hundred would be a nice thing!
Most likely you already know what an “Elevator Pitch” is – that supposedly, it’s a short very to-the-point pitch that you give to an investor prospect in less than a minute….say the same amount of time it’d take to ride up to an office in a downtown skyscraper.
Least, that’s the thinking and what you can find all over the web….but I think – and hopefully can make the case here, that in reality an Elevator Pitch is “it!” It’s the single most important piece of early marketing that any startup founder can use to try to get interest and momentum in their new company!
