Canada versus Facebook: Legal Suits Begin!

Yes, Facebook is now facing legal suits over it’s privacy issues! A Toronto based lawfirm, known for previous suits over breast implants and chocolate makers, has just launched a new class action lawsuit against Facebook, where they’ve alleged that Facebook has mishanded sensitive user data–the latest development in a resurgence of action against the social network’s privacy policies!

Am I surprised? Nope, not a bit. Am I a Facebook user, personally and commercially? Yes, I am. Do I think that the site does have privacy issues that are as yet, unresolved? Yes I do. Do I think the lawsuit, as described, has any merit? Um….that’s the question, eh?

Facebook Privacy Issues for Canadians!

Okay, you’re thinking that hey, Facebook is one of those “social” sites, right? So who’s worried about privacy when you “choose” to be social online, eh?

Sigh….there are some MAJOR concerns that are apparently coming more to the forefront for us canucks and here’s the Canadian skinny on same!

First, Facebook has like millions of Canadian members, it’s estimated that 7 out of 10 online Canadians are members. That’s a lot of us, for starters. Go to google.ca and try “facebook privacy issues in Canada”….and note that there are 135 million hits. Looks like this Facebook foray into publication of personal information has struck a chord for us Canadians, eh! I’d say so and this is somewhat of an interesting issue too…
