Titled as “Connected to the Future,” a recent report to their members from CIRA (our Canadian Internet Registration Authority) is well worth both the click and the read – in fact, you should do that right now and then skip the rest of this piece…
Oh, still here? Well, let me recap for you what this great paper does pass along about our Canadian internet presence, and what it says the future holds for us too…and here’s the thing I mean -
Yup, the title about says it all….as a nation, we Canucks are about as plugged in as you can get! Don’t know if it’s our long long winters or our cheap hydro power, but for whatever reason, we Canucks love being online!
First, the report that shows just how much growth our .ca registry has enjoyed, when compared to other national (ccTLD) registries is out and it was compiled by the folks over at SIDN, the Netherlands (.nl) registry and the numbers are interesting to say the least. In the free PDF report, there is a chart that shows the world’s top 25 internet country codes and their growth….and yup, Canada is #1 on the list for growth for country codes! Us Canucks rule, eh!
First, the announcement can be found here, on the CIRA site itself….and as it points out, there are more than 1.5 million .CA sites out there…to “celebrate and honour their positions on the front lines of the digital economy in Canada, an award of $5000 awaits winners of the CIRA Impact Awards…” is what they have offered as the rationale behind these Awards — and I say a BIG CONGRATS to the folks over at CIRA!
