I found this link earlier in the week….and thought I’d share it with our readers…and for me having been on the web since the days of Lynx and text-only based communication….it’s surely a look back to the past!
Search engines…there’ve been a few…and here’s the link to same - http://www.thesearchenginelist.com/ – and it’s a long long scrolling list that for many of us brings back memories.
Yup, I know…what is Hilltop and what do I mean by ‘AuthorRank’ too? Simply put, what I’m going to be talking about in this Canadian SEO blog post is what might be the newly intended value of the patented Hilltop algorithm that Google bought about a decade ago.
First, what’s the Hilltop algo?
It was as Wiki states “…an algorithm used to find documents relevant to a particular keyword topic. Created by Krishna Bharat while he was at Compaq Systems Research Center and George A. Mihăilă at the University of Toronto, it was acquired by Google in February 2003…and Bharet is employed at Google now…are you getting my “drift” on this?
One of those weeks, eh…where you work hard for clients….invest time in networking and meeting up with your Mentorees…and still find time to stay aware of what’s new in your SEO channel. Yes, one of those weeks that for the most part are busy busy. Which gets me to the point of what we do here at KKT INTERACTIVE Inc. – we do online marketing for clients.
Which means that we like all the other SEO firms out there, pay particular attention to Google et al….well to Google for sure.
If there’s a change, a ripple, a modification, a “what the heck is that” kind of sudden difference from what we’ve been seeing to what we see….we notice.
Insider information…meant for Google employees only….but somehow “leaked” to us non-Google employees…could there be a greater way to learn from “the horse’s mouth?” Nope….I don’t think so either.
S0…160 pages of top quality Google SEO quality guidelilnes for their “raters” to use to aid Google in it’s rating procedures….and you can read it all and learn….what a gift!
At least in my world it is….yes, I know that there are already those in the SEO world who are already claiming that this is all phony….that Google would never ever deploy this kind of business intelligence….that what we’re reading is just SPIN!
It should be no surprise, that if a tablet that works, uses Android, comes loaded with a real speedy proprietary browser and costs less than $40 CDN, then I’d be a early adopter! Disclaimer: I host this site so I’ve known about same for almost a month…fyi!
And yes I am….as I’m right now typing this blog post on my brand new ubiSlate 7Ci…and this tablet rocks!
Okay, it’s no iPad or high end unit….but at 7″, with a quick response TFT capacitive screen (just like the iPad1) and about 2.5 to 3 hours of battery life and it shows my YouTube movies lickety-split….no disruption, freezes or stuttering….all for less than $40 CDN!
A couple of terms here to explain I’d imagine before you even get the thrust of this post would be in order…. #JerkTech is a phrase that is fairly new, and refers to what TechCrunch labels as “…emblematic of a compassionless new wave of self-serving startups that exploit small businesses and public infrastructure to make a buck and aid the wealthy. Let’s call these parasites #JerkTech. It’s one thing to outcompete a big, stagnant company with new technology. It’s another to screw over the little guys just because you can sell what’s usually free…”
So….#JerkTech (also a real live Twitter handle!) is something not so good, right? Wrong in my world…because I’ve always been a “let the market decide” type of guy.
That said, we did a lot of analyzing of some testing we’ve been working on to try to validate some LOCAL citation resources and that’s fortunate for our client roster – well, not yet…but soon!
And as it’s Friday, yup we’ve got some captured URLs for some Infographics we found and loved….on SEO and yes on humour too!
Wonder why they are all asking right now? Dozens and dozens of emails from all kinds of firms you’ve never ever heard of? All urging you to QUICK click here….sigh….
It was my pleasure to accept one of the 3 Judges seats for same and our chore as in other years, was to listen to the 12 pitches from the contestants, then help with our own queries to name the final 2 finalists who’d go “head-to-head” in a 2 minute Pitch-off and the crowd would decide on the overall winner.
This is perhaps one of the best blog posts I’ve seen lately – in fact this year, and it’s from one of the best LOCAL SEO practitioners you’ll find here in North America, Miriam Ellis of Solas Web Design and yup, we know each other too! Not a real disclaimer but in fact a Kudos statement! This is good!
Note we do speak often via our own SEO Experts mastermind Skype group and you may know her too from her Staff job over at moz.com….here’s her Profile there too fyi so yes we’re familiar with each other and our work.
Been a long one of course – the week I mean – but on the whole pretty good for our SEO client roster. We’ve gotten a couple of same up on page 1, we’ve found a new tactic to get LOCAL traction for another and we’re still working on a set of hypothesis tactics that just may play out for our whole roster…but that’s another story.
So, Friday…and as usual we’ve found an infographic or two that we thought we should let you SMB owners know about in case you’re thinking about upping your own DIY SEO game…and today is no different.
Okay, so you copied and pasted that big huge word up in the title of this post into Google and found that the definition of same is “the fear of Friday the 13th..” and that’s okay, so did I. But why, praytell am I using this term today…take a look at your calendar, eh!
Yup…it’s Friday June 13th and it’s a great day….I have no “fear” of today as today is also my birthday and I’m posting just these few paragraphs today so I can take the rest of the day off….and enjoy!
