If you do not know who Chris Brogan is, then I’d suspect you’re not quite as “pluggedin” to the online marketing world as you could be! Chris is a very well respected author with books on the NYTimes best-seller lists, is a well known online marketing blogger at www.chrisbrogan.com and yes, I’ve heard speak at a few SEO/SEM conferences on many occasions.
That said, it’s his new Infographic I just found that is so great to see - as you know I’m in love with what Google+ can do to help you climb your biz up and into the minds of prospective new clients/customers…so this one is a real treat even though its already a year old…..and still welll worth the click/thru, eh!

So the latest news from Google – well, from Matt Cutts who’s the head of the Google Spam Team, is that there is a brand new Google form for anyone to use to report a scraper site ranking higher than the author site.
Huh? Well, here’s what he meant – at least as I see it.
If you write your own content, say a great blog piece on how to attract brand new truck driver candidates for your trucking firm, and then post it on your blog that’s a good thing. You’re sharing your expertise with the folks who might find that kind of an article of interest, and yes, you use Social Media via your own company pages to publicize that fresh content. Let a day or two go by and you then check that post and it’s position in the Google rankings…and hey great, you’re at #7 on the page….
Even more seldom is the thought that, yup…I gotta share this with others too.

We thought that as we launched our new site, www.fundhamont.com just a couple of days ago, that we’d put the same blog post about that launch up here on our Canuck.SEO.com for our readers to look over and see if the idea works for them too!
So…without further ado, here’s our launch notice…
After much insight over the years on how a new website gathers momentum when it comes to launch time, I know that the normal methods will not work for our own FundHamOnt site, not in the least…and that’s not a concern…
In fact, what we’re trying to do is to “soft launch” and for the most part we’re right on target. Consider what we’ve done and the rationale behind same…
We tend to mind our own business pretty well for the most part…it’s not often anymore that I feel the need to “out” scam what with the whole general internet user base getting so much more knowledgeable about same. And as I’ve noticed more and more folks are learning about the rewards of dealing with companies that email you first with what looks like a real live “free lunch – get rich quick” type of scheme…and then after you PayPal payment goest thru, you’re left with nothing at all. Been there, done that and yup, got the T-Shirt on those kinda scams and yes we’ve often been asked by clients for counsel on what appears to them to be a great opportunity…but not really.
Yes, there’s some great ones…as well as some real clinkers. Some are free…some cost something. Some do a really great job…others not so much. Some are pretty specific in their results while others are all over the place…but they all should get a real look/see for you to think on using.
One more note – that like all SEO types, I too use tools. Some of these ones too. But to be really honest here, my own fav’s were built by me – I’m a 40+ year programmer so using VBasic or ASP or .NET or Ruby to build a free-standing desktop tool is still my fav way to go. Sometimes tho, the same results can be had from one of these tools listed here today…but sometimes not, i.e. ymmv…but do give some a look, eh!
Knowing what kind of a penalty your site receives from Google is the start of learning how to fix same – there I said it. That is so true that I’m always surprised when a new client comes along and they have no idea as to “which” type of a penalty they’ve been hit with. How does one tell and even more importantly, what can you do about same would be the import of todays post on Google penalties, eh!
Penalties come in two kinds of course – manual and algorithmic and yes there is a difference. A manual penalty from Google is when an actual human being at Google takes manual action against a website. One of the most recent (and attention grabbing) examples of Google taking manual action against a website and penalizing it was the J.C. Penney paid links scandal.
Yes, you read that right…on July 1, 2014, the new Canadian Anti-Spam Law comes into effect and that looks like a great idea…or is it?
I mean we all get spam, right? If it’s not the ‘enlarging of body parts’ to ‘solar power’ to ‘flower delivery’ to ‘cougar dating’ to ‘blood pressure solutions’ to ‘vydox for females’ to ‘anti-aging secrets’ to ‘auto protection’ to ‘insurance quotes’ — just about anything and everything else, we all get dunned with this river of spam. Why you might ask?
Okay, you’re an SMB owner and you run a bricks ‘n mortar location in your Canadian city, in any of our Canuck provinces and you’re wondering how you can get some LOCAL ranking traction. And the simple answer is – you need to use Citations (as described here in Wiki) to gain that traction via search engine rankings….and so now you know.
Huh? Well the real story of course is much longer and some background can be found here & here & here & here….and ESPECIALLY HERE….and yes, as you’d begin to suspect, there are more and more local search ranking factors at work than mere Citations – but that’s where we all begin.
