Google’s Panda 4.0 Update is Live – are You?
No real surprise here, but Google just announced 2 days ago, that their most recent global update to the Panda algo modifications are live, up and running and in some cases as reported, making some sites hurt – hurt badly!
Panda, you ask?
Well, it’s a filter that prevents low quality sites and/or pages from ranking well in the search engine results page. The filter’s threshold is influence by Google Quality Raters.Quality Raters answer questions such as “would I trust this site with my credit card?” so that Google can distinguish the difference between high and low quality sites.
Google then uses the Quality Rater’s inputs to feed their machine learning algorithm. Before Panda, the scalability of machine learning for Google was low and, because of new technologies that resulted in the Panda update, Google’s machine learning abilities greatly increased…as is reported by WikiPedia here….
And what most of the web SEO experts now report is that this is not one of the minor small algo updates as has happened over the past few years, but a MAJOR update to the serps…and yes we’ve read about some absolutely horrid results for some sites too…

And our clients?
Not a smidgen of a movement at all….as you probably know already, “white hat” SEO practitioners generally watch these algo updates from the sidelines as our own client roster of sites is NOT in that “gaming” game….we don’t use any of the tricks/gimmicks that earn you a Panda “punch-down” so we’re not affected at all, so far. But from the list I see of sites that are, it’s interesting to us to be able to see those changes without being affected whatsoever…Google
