DIY SEO: Local Runs on Canadian Citations, eh!
Okay, you’re an SMB owner and you run a bricks ‘n mortar location in your Canadian city, in any of our Canuck provinces and you’re wondering how you can get some LOCAL ranking traction. And the simple answer is – you need to use Citations (as described here in Wiki) to gain that traction via search engine rankings….and so now you know.
Huh? Well the real story of course is much longer and some background can be found here & here & here & here….and ESPECIALLY HERE….and yes, as you’d begin to suspect, there are more and more local search ranking factors at work than mere Citations – but that’s where we all begin.
So, you need a list of them right? Well, I reported on same about 4 years ago here, and then updated that list here and was nicely quoted on same here and here by David Mihm (on of the continents MAJOR local search experts who is now at Moz.com) and to be totally honest, I’ve not looked at same now in over a year. Been busy. Been really busy and haven’t even thought much about same as I’ve been using my list, adapting it by modifying the usable URLs over the past 12 months or so…till this weekend.
And I thought it time to update same….and give all my Canadian SEO SMB readers what I think is the most up-to-date list of working Canadian Citations I’ve got….so now you do too! But a note, that this is a compiled list of some newer URLs that I’ve gotten from other SEO practitioners, online sources, citation building tools…etc etc. but that should not worry you as they all are working Citation sites….honest they are!
But before my own list here’s a short bulleted list of some of those other sources that I thought it would be advantageous for you to compare too and see what others thought too….
- Localtrifecta Citations…
- Phil Rozek Local Search Expert…
- Lautman Group list…
- BrightLocal list…
- the WhiteSpark Citation tool…
- Specialized Restaurant Citations from Jackson Lo over at menu.ca
- Adam Steeles Canadian Directories listings…
The results of course are varied…many many Canadian Citation sites are duplicated on the lists above but there are some that appear only once, so I’d definitely give them a try too…. And a further note that the last link to the WhiteSpark site is truly a Canadian gem – Darren builds wonderful tools that can help you use your own DIY SEO rank building and the Citation one is a true winner – and he offers up a free trial too! Don’t miss that one, eh!
And now finally, here’s my own list….
Note that many have ‘drill-down’ provincial or regional locations or types of businesses to consider, so don’t make any input errors….but yup, they work!Google
