Google NEWS: Rollout of “Search Plus Your World”
It appears that yes – Google has just changed the way they show web search results….once again, eh! In the past 2 weeks they’ve been rolling out the launch of this wherein Google now finds both content that’s been shared with you privately along with matches from the public web, all mixed into a single set of listings.
The change is live now, though it’s only for those signed-in to Google.com and searching in English but I’m sure that will change quickly for all the various Google sites around the globe. You’ll know when it happens, because Google will let you know via a message above your search results that lets you know that it’s up and live and you’re ‘in’ the groove!
The new system will perhaps make life much easier for some people, allowing them to find both privately shared content from friends and family plus material from across the web through a single search, rather than having to search twice using two different systems.
Google of course has had personalized results since 2005, results from across the web that are given a ranking boost because they are deemed especially of interest to someone, based on their personal behavior and interests. Then yes, again in 2007 and even once more in 2009 Google made modifications to the web search results and then further, Google added in social search results and back in 2011, all the results were “blended” together – and then there’s this new rollout!
Now, Google with ths new Search Plus Your World adds a new “Personal Results” view that appears. The view personalizes the listings you get based on both your own behavior and social connections, similar to what previously happened. In addition, content that’s been shared with you through the Google+ social network now also appears.
“The social search algorithm, and the personal search algorithm, and the personalized search algorithm are actually one algorithm now, and we are merging it in a way that is very pleasant and useful,” said Amit Singhal, who oversees Google’s ranking algorithms.
As you can see, there’s notice on the left hand side arrow that points to the number of “personal” results being added to the search results and the right hand arrow points to an on/off button to either add in those personal results or turn them off easily – thanks Google!
And yes, theres tons more here to look at and study and then report back on here…but for now watch fo those S+YW results coming to a google page of your own, eh!Google
