sophos-1If you read here, you know that I do very much favour the Sophos firm and it’s attention-to-detail on helping users avoid and yes even innoculate against malware and viruses all over the globe.

You know that I follow the fine folks over at Sophos daily and their Chester Wisniewski, a security blogger/analyst on the Sophos Naked Security site and have for years. You know that I’ve followed and blogged about the Sophos YouTube channel and it always has new “leading edge” content for those of us who try to stay current in the online security field too. You know that I’ve blogged on “Blackhat SEO Expose from Sophos,” on “We Like Sophos for Safe Web Browsing” and “Canadian SEO Data Protection: Sophos Rocks, eh!” too and all are still spot-on for security concerns and the web.

So it should be no wonder that when Sophos just released their most recent Whitepaper, entitled “Five Stages of a Web Malware Attack,” that I jumped on it immediately and what a great read it is – plus, and here’s the biggie folks, it can show you in just a few pages how to stay “smarter” in your web browsing too! Here’s how they intro the Acrobat .pdf whitepaper –

“Today’s web attacks are extremely sophisticated and multi-faceted motivated by a massive underground economy that trades in compromised computers and user information. This paper shows you how modern web attacks work, broken down into five stages, fromentry through execution.

We’ll explain the advanced techniques hackers use to infect web users and steal data or money, and how most web security products are failing. Most importantly, we’ll give you insight into the layers of protection you need, and a checklist for evaluating your policies and the security capabilities of your web protection solution…”

As you can see, and will read too, Sophos has the insight to show you the basis of the 5 steps that ALL malware follows in trying to infect your computer and it spells them out in depth – and best of all, it gives you tactics to use to avoid same!

Here’s a quick look at just one of the great charts in the Whitepaper that shows Infections – and the common downloads that are used to do that along with vital information that spells out what you – and your monitoring software – should be looking for to defend against.

I love this Whitepaper – it’s well worth the download and time spent to read and ingest same…hey, it’s a jungle out there…and we all need protection and Sophos is one of the best ways to do just that, eh!
