Google+ Matters for SEO Campaigns, eh!
Okay, like many other online marketing types, I too thought WooHoo when Google launched their own social media platform Google+ a couple of years back – well at least I thought it was a good thing to challenge all of the other social media giants already established like FB and Twitter, Reddit and Tumblr etc…
My thinking over that timespan hasn’t changed and while the jury is still “out” on the value of a G+ account and the resulting buzz, what I know so far is that yes, G+ is becoming more and more important for any SMB and their own online SEO Campaign!
How’s that? Well here’s two very important things to learn about for your own SEO Campaign….
Well the answers appear to be pretty well verified so far….you can google for that evidence and read the hits yourself too which you should always do when it comes to vetting anyone’s opinion…but here’s a short list of what I know so far – and how my own client roster is gaining ground too!
First, you have to think about links and how Google+ treats them. Go to a normal posting and look at what it is you see….here I’m using a G+ post from someone I follow Lee Odden of TopRank Online Marketing out of Minneapolis (a great SEO resource, eh!) and here’s what it looked like on my G+ page…
As you can see, it’s a post about SEO Copywriting, but note the the green bordered link URL that I’ve highlighted for you….that area is yes an URL and yes it is NOT hindered by a rel=NOFOLLOW filter from Google – in fact, it does pass link authority or what we SEO types call “link juice” to the shared content over at the TopRank blog page….a good thing!
So a properly formatted post not only “helps” the followers of that poster but also helps the site where the link transfers to too! A good thing and yes, G+ does use that NOFOLLOW tag elsewhere but not is this case. Learn that one. It works, eh!
One more thing here to see and learn about…and that’s the G+ thrust into “brand” and how they perceive using same in web searches can help any SMB who both has a brand and chooses to feature same on the G+ network. What I mean by that is as follows…is that there now appears to be evidence that yes, G+ is contributing to the success of brands now appearing in their Knowledge Graph display area for web searches!
Here’s a web search for what I’m interested in (disclaimer – selfie search coming up, eh!) – for my own firm….
As you’ll note again by the green box area, what Google now does is to search it’s own index for the “brand” that I’ve identified in my search – and if there is one matching brand that has by Google’s own algo, reached a “mass” of popular support, it fills in that right hand side with information taken DIRECTLY from that brand’s Google+ company pages and displays same on the web search results page.
This is cool!
This is also an SEO tactic that one can use to help G+ get more content showing up on the web search results page too!
Plus, we’ve also noted as have many other SEO firms, that G+ is seaching constantly for new updated content….a post today on G+ at say 10:00 am will often show up at 10:05 am….that is, in just a few minutes Google is indexing new content and will display same online asap….that’s a real boon for content management SEO firms who get new client content posted and then indexed and then shown….
So, if that’s you….then do use the above two tips to get some more Canadian SEO Campaign traction by getting involved with Google+!Google
