Fabulous Friday: Search for SEO Infographics!

google_imageYes, Friday again and our regulars here know that we often use this weekend-starting blog post to show new and topical Infographics that can help any SMB owner get some SEO Campaign traction…and today is no exception.

Well, except for the fact that this post is not really about any specific SEO Infographic, but more about how you can use targeted searches to find just this kind of tactical help on your own. How?

Well, first go to google and click on their text link to their IMAGES index first…and once there, enter into the search field your best phrase for what you think might help you learn more about your own SEO Campaign.

For instance, here I entered the phrase “on-page seo infographic” and this is what one gets at google.com for same –

As you can see there’s like a million images…and they all appear (at least at first glance) to have something to do with SEO and they look like images all right…but how do you choose some post-search candidates to peruse for those SEO tactical nuggets, you ask?

Wish I had a pat answer for that…but if you’re like me, you will tend to think that as google does “rank” these images within their index just like they rank websites for web searches, wouldn’t google already have sorted out same and ranked the images according to their own image ranking factors? So the ones right up top are the “best” match that google has determined for your search phrase.

Well…yes…and no!

The yes is based on the POV that yes the resulting image search items are ranked according to google’s image ranking factors….but the no item is what only perhaps few of us SEO practitioners “get” right away.

That as google is constantly updating those rankings and applying variants to the hundreds of ranking factors (add in various google server farm updates & the diff tween even google.com and google.ca to further muddy those waters) and what you’ll quickly realize is that the order of the images on the page is a moving target. However, an image that ranks higher on an image search CAN rank higher even if the content of same is now old, dated, out-moded….follow me here?

You are looking for CURRENT tactics that are shown in an infographic and NOT the highest ranked infographics…so do what I do for better Canadian SEO tactics, eh!

Go back to your image search results page and then click on the Search Tools > Time > Custom range text button found here –

And then pick a more recent i.e. much newer date range – say the past 2 weeks only and then click GO and you’ll then get the most recent additions, in their ranked order (however populated still to a degree with previously ranked Infographics too) like this –

And what comes up top now?

The latest additions to the google image index, with the most recent SEO tactics shown using new Infographics….surely the better way to both learn what to learn and what to do for your own SMB website!

Isn’t that what you were after in the first place? Thought so….
