FreshBooks Founder Tells Us How to Earn More!
It’s not often that I review books…though to be honest, I’ve been so very partial to the works of Guy Kawasaki, I’ve not really thought much of other business book offers to send me free copies if I’d review same.
Sure I’ve done a few others for other blogs, but the thing is, I’m not really a ‘book reviewer’ type of online marketer.
That said, yup…I found one and it’s odd as to how I found same and then why I thought I’d offer up a review of same, but it’s first of all, found here and it’s entitled “Breaking the Time Barrier” by Mike McDerment, CEO and found of our own Canadian startup success – FreshBooks.
I found the book via a short blog piece that Mike had written here, on the Six Revisions website where other designers and developers and other creatives blog about various topics. I read the piece….saw the link to the book that purportedy “filled out” Mike’s thinking on same…and clicked the link. And loved what I found….a great short book of only 70 pages or so that made me think about revenue models and some of the various startups I’ve invested in….and how they’d really need to read same too..
So what does Mike have to say about earning more money? Well one of the tag lines for the book is “how to unlock your earning potential” and that’s backed up by the claim that in 2004, Mike worked only 19 days and earned $200,000 CDN….did that grab your attention?
According to Mike – well, you’ll need to read the book actually to gain the same perspective that I now have on how to really learn how to price what it is you do within your channel marketplace to maximize your revenues.
It will take you at most an hour and a bit to read same…but it is a good read. If you’re a creative type at all, you’ll immediately recognize your own skillset and the accompanying rationales that you’ve made (same as Mike did) and then see from his own viewpoint how a simple change can actually ‘make’ a difference.
A big difference too, IMHO and that’s so important for those of us who price our revenues using various models and styles of billable hours or projects pricing too.
Read the book, but note that yes, it’s free. Rather, as Mike explains it, it is free but if you want to donate something for the truths it shows you for your own earning powers – then that’d be okay too.
But no matter….Mike adds that he so believes in this book that he wants you to share same, so do that.
Think of others you know in the creative world and how such a book might help them….and send them that link!Google
