Fabulous Friday: Is our Love of Infographics MIA?
First tho, the best one I’ve seen in awhile, is this one from the folks over at infographics.sg and it is both very very “artsy” but at the same time gets the whole story across in Social Media. It’s entitled “What you need to know about choosing the most effective social media platforms” and the link to same is here….
What I especially like is the ability to look at the demo graphics for your target audience….that helped me greatly just two days ago with a new startup I’m involved with…and that’s the quickest I’ve ever been able to say that…honest!
Do click that link…it’s both a great way to “see” what details are being covered…and the content is major…
Which gets me to that word….content….so, what is content and what has that got to do with infographics?
Well the folks over at zazzlemedia.co.uk have got this POV based on this blog piece here….and yup, it’s all about how infographics are…well….here’s how they put the intro to this piece –
“For a long time infographics have been the forefront of large scale pieces of big bang content and data visualisation. Done well they can still deliver great reach. However, this time is coming to an end. In fact there are multiple reasons why infographics are no longer the ‘in’ thing in content marketing. Let’s go through them quickly.
Firstly, they’re becoming spammy. Quickly scraped together by some overseas designers or interns who have little design experience such ‘misuse’ has devalued them as content to deliver ‘wow’ factor.
This spammy behaviour is causing there to be more and more infographics out in the wild which leads us onto our next point…
They’re no longer unique!
There are so many infographics out in the wild now. Sadly that means that the majority of site visitors and owners treat them with a kind of contempt usually reserved for discarded chewing gum – and that’s a great shame. Over supply has created a situation where even the great ones are being overlooked…”
As you can see, well, if you clicked you saw that they made some strong points, with some great examples of infographics too…
And as I can read into what they have to say….perhaps – just perhaps they do make a valued point or two….I do not want to misslead myself either. I’m still digesting that data….and while I’d hate to think that my own viewpoints on the validity of infographics are MIA…one just never knows….
