Chitika Insights: The Value of being #1 in Google!
Been awhile since I reported on what real value there is in being #1 for a search over at Google, but the report just released this past week from the folks over at Chitika Insights is pretty darn accurate, eh!
But what about the thought that this study – like all too many online marketing whitepapers, might be “not so true?” I’ve written before on the Chitika network and most readers will remember that I do like same. It’s numbers and % reports jive so very well with what my own network shows that I just nod in agreement….having found the same angles and slants as they report…and it’s been 3 years since I reported on same.
But the value of being #1 on Google….what’s the study’s bona fides? Here’s what they have to say about their Methodology -
“As an ad network, Chitika Insights measures usage based on ad impressions served within our network. An ad impression is measured when an individual user loads a page containing Chitika ad code. Chitika Insights’ method does not measure unique users, it measures overall Web usage. This means that if a user views ten pages that contain Chitika code, they will register ten ad impressions. All Chitika ad impressions are generated through Web browsing, not mobile or desktop applications.
Chitika Insights’ typical sample for a study consists of approximately 300 million U.S. and Canadian impressions, as measured by page views rather than unique visitors (as explained in the first paragraph of this section). However, this number can vary based upon the length of the study or what is being measured…”
As you can see, with more than 300 million samples, this Chitika Insights study is rock solid…but what was the answer to same? Well here’s their chart on the % of traffic of results position…and note that the #1 spot gets about 1/3 of all the clicks…and drops off drastically too!
And here is the Chitika report graph on the % of the traffic by the results page….and note the HUGE falloff from page 1!
As you can see, being #1 is it.
Every other spot further down the page drops off with regards to both clicks and page changes.
That’s not surprising, but as can be seen here….it’s further evidence that you need to rank to get traffic….and then convert those leads to real live customers!
