Watches: A Rant about Customer Service!!!
Okay, I like watches. New modern funky looking ones. Old gems like Rolexes. Partial to Movados. Love the Guess brand. And anything ultra ultra hi-tech ie Japanese I just have to have. I think I must own like 30+ of same and the choice each day, standing by my wall mounted “watch carousel” is more than a chore…it’s a love affair with timepieces.
So you get that I like watches. And that means that I scour the web for anything new, anything vibrant to my eyes….I love watches.
That said, I did find a new retailer in my monthly watch hunt a few weeks back and I went thru at least 50+ pages of men’s watches to see what they had. And I liked I think like a dozen or so….and the fact that they were all less than $25 was encouraging. So I bought 3 to begin with, to test the seller and payments etc.
Used Paypal and low and behold in like 6 days, DHL was at my door with the watches….had to pay about $19 in duties etc…but that’s cool as the 3 only cost about $55. So I’m happy, well so far at least…
Opened up the package, and fell in love. Great look, easy to set the times…I was a happy camper and as these were analog self-winders, I was more than pleased…as I like that type about best I think.
So….couple of weeks pass, the new arrivals get rotated onto my arm….and yes, still a happy camper.
Then I decided to get three more, and made my choices….DHL again in 6 days and yes…all costs less than $20 in duties etc…and I put the first new arrival on that day. Worked fine.
Couple of days later, I tried the #2 watch…the one shown above an odd ‘flashing LED’ light one…..and I can’t figure out how to set the time. So I check the “Users Manual” – sigh….my term is so much what I thought the seller would have packaged with the watch, sigh.
Here’s how it says – exactly – no typos here – to change the time -
“Touch surface 8 Sizableg times hols 3 seconds unto the set time
State set sequence: Hour (witfor4 seconds)Minute”
Honest, that’s what it says. What does that mean to you? Me either…so I laboured on how to get a support ticket started and asked for help.
Help is an intersting word….to me at least it means that someone would tell me how to set the time…yet here’s what I got – verbatim on my support ticket -
Unfortunately, we do not have a more specific instructions for this watch.
We would like to provide you 3 solutions as follows. Could you please kindly consider them and advise us which solution you prefer?
1. We could like to offer you a $15 coupon as a compensation.
2. We could arrange a refund ($13.89).
3. We could arrange the replacement for you, and the reprocessing time will be as same as your original order.
As you can see, they have no idea. They sell a product that no one knows how to tell a buyer how to set the time…sigh….so I picked #2…I asked for a refund.
And I was still somewhat upset….I like the look of that watch, but remembering that when I look at it that I have to mentally add 8 hours and 12 minutes to the time shown to get the real time….is a pain.
But….guess you get what you pay for…and little did I know that this morning, I put on the last one of those last 3 watches – the one to the left here, and realized that it too needed to be set. I like it’s look as it’s totally transparent as you can see your arm under the dial and it’s again an analog self-wider….but the time needed to be set.
So I grabbed the crown to pull it out to the stop and it came right out. Wasn’t even attached to the movement. Tilt the watch on your wrist and out it falls…sigh…
Am I surprised – not really. Did I start another ticket? Yes. Do I expect to actually get a replacment, hardly.
Sigh…online reputation for me is an earned item…and for this seller I’m done!
