smx_logoOkay, so it’s over…..the 2013 SMX Toronto show ended yesteday and I’m so so appreciative that I was able to be a speaker at same!

Man did I learn online marketing items and did I ever meet a great bunch of marketers too!

I made more than 100 brand new Twitter followers, I followed over 125 myself too….I got tons of new signups to this blog and yes, I signed up myownself to a couple too!

chrisFirst, my thanks…to Chris Sherman of searchengineland.com who accepted my pitch to be a speaker and his whole vision on just what to offer up all of the attendants to the event! His biography is pretty rich in both marketing experience and his ability to lead….and is surely worth a click to find out more.

What I especially enjoyed was the chat that I had with him in person about the show itself and how it really was geared for both the organic SEO track (of which I am a part) as well as the whole other track for those involved in PPC etc. on day 1 and then Social Media & Canadian Issues track and lastly the SMX Advanced track too on day 2. That was so nice to see that the various areas were covered in their own seperate sessions and led by names we all know in those areas. Day 1, by the way, offered up Jon Sinden, Manager of Digital Content for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment – and boy does that young man know/love/live/breathe hockey! Great way to learn about how MLSE handles social media and their fanbase too!

Next were the Day 1 sessions, and boy….were they ever packed with both great speakers and great content too! Here’s just a quick look at some standouts….

Helen Overland of searchenginepeople.com spoke at some real depth on “Surviving Penguins, Pandas & Other SEO Beasts” as did Grant Simmons of The Search Agency too….great content here and some pretty convincing items about what’s coming down the pike re: Penguin updates to be happening soon!

alanAlan K’necht of Digital Always Media spoke with some of the most depth all day on “What SEO Metrics are Truly Important” and I loved his comment on tools and their uses/values and strengths! Kudos Alan…you sure know metrics!

Sidebar too….Alan really seems to be a major “part” of the whole SMX show experience for me at least….he was everywhere talking to everyone about all things SEO & Google too…I’d say that Alan is well connected, eh!

debbieDebbie Horovitch of The Sparkle Agency was a great resource and speaker on “Getting Ahead with Google+” and if you ever wondered about the value of that Google social media site, then please do get involved she stated. Go there right now, create your Google+ Profile and be a part of the upcoming new wave in the social media world! Great advice, Debbie….and well stated too!

Eric Enge, of Stone Temple Consulting was someone known to me already…well not personally, but I bought his book almost a year ago – The Art of SEO – which he co-authored with other SEO experts and I was not surprised to hear what he had to say. I expected excelleance and got same….so Kudos to Eric too!

And then almost at the end of Day 1, was my own session on “From Authorship To Authority: Why Claiming Your Identity Matters” and that was so so so much fun and ably moderated by Andy Atkins-Kruger of WebCertain too!

chuckWe led off that session with Chuck Price of Measureable SEO, who was so very uptempo and full of facts/figures that even though I knew much about his presentation, I was just as “blown-away” by the great session as was the crowded audience was too! So Kudos to Chuck….great presi and I’m definitely a fan!

My own 15 minutes of fame went by quickly. I was able to cover each of my 33 slides and yes I fleshed out many with “sidebars” about further AuthorShip facts and figures too! I think I did okay, and finished on time…so hopefully the attendees learned something too. I won’t recap here what areas I covered but would offer up my own slidedeck here at the end of this blog post so you can see the areas I covered.

One small note tho of attribution – without the “pioneering” work done by folks like Bill Slawski, AJ Kohn, Mike Arnesen and Mark Traphagen on AuthorShip et al….I’d have had a tough time coming up with some of my own hypothesis on my own…their help was greatly appreciated! So Kudos to you all!

So….was SMXToronto 2013 a success?

Yes….it truly was for me…while I only could get the time off to go to the first of the two day Conference (clients, eh!) I did so much enjoy myself and met some great folks too!

Oh – one comment too on live blogging…saw it first-hand at this show and thought it was pretty cool….and as you can see here, the tweets alone were great too, eh! So Kudos to Alan K’necht for this ability and skill….job well done sir!

Thanks for the shoutout! Glad after several years of getting to know you online we finally got to meet Face to Face at SMX Toronto.

    Your sessions was fantastic.

  2. As Alan said, well put! It was a pleasure meeting you, and your session was FANTASTIC!

Can’t wait to announce our plans for a lively G+ Hangouts on Air discussion with you and bloggers, business owners and notable industry professionals on Google Authorship! It’s one of the first things I need to activate now that I’m “recovering” from networking & conferencing overdose.

I also think I’ll start 30-minute per day SEO brain exercise (reading) and start a new from-basics SEO blog sharing what I learn.

    Debbie

  3. Thanks for the shout out and sharing the “Shamu Update” :-)

Great people, content and networking, although my face is just defrosting in the SoCal sunshine :-)

    Cheers
