FabFriday: Infographics and SEO Work Well Together, eh!

fridayAnother Friday, and it’s been one hell of a week…we’ve been in client meetings for days, delivered our Online Marketing Workshop to some of our Innovation Factory’s top startups just yesterday and today it’s infographic recap time….at least this am it is! Then on to more development of our new WebSEOAudit tool…but more on that to come later.

Infographics. Simply put, work well in advancing the rank of any web page that hold same – especially (no surprise) if the infographic is both well done and spoton graphically too! That’s not news – we’ve reported on same time and time again and a simple google shows that the SEO community thinks much the same.

So I thought that today, I’d begin with a really in-depth interview recently done by Randy Krum of Infonewt on Eric Enge and his take on Infographics and SEO…Eric by the way is bio’d here –

Eric Enge is the CEO of Stone Temple Consulting, a consulting company that provides a full range of Internet marketing optimization services including: strategic business planning, on page search engine optimization, link building, content optimization, conversion optimization, social media optimization, user engagement, and pay-per-click campaign development and optimization. Eric is co-author of the book The Art of SEO, a speaker at numerous search marketing events, and a contributing author to Search Engine LandSearch Engine Watch, and SEOmoz.

As you can see…Eric is one of the “giants” in our SEO industryand you’d be well advised to add his blog to your daily reading, eh! In fact the following pull-quote from Eric is spot-on and something that I do see that’s fairly prevalent in the infographic-for-SEO-ranking world —

“I would like to emphasize accuracy. A lot of people throw together infographics and they are more concerned about having a visual thing that they can get links to and they don’t put in the work to do a good job. And that’s really sad. Talk about something that Google wants to come down on – the accuracy thing is definitely one of them. Just don’t do it…”

After reading that great interview (thanks Randy!) there are a couple more infographics that were of interest to me this week, and the first of same is a longish one over at Monetate, entitled “The Marketers Guide to Actionable Data,” and it’s a great set of stats and viewpoints on why we marketers use data to try to help us determine who are customers are and what they want. We do that of course to drive engagement and to gain results that increase revenues…and while this is not new – there are some interesting stats in this infographic – dont miss that click, eh!

bounceNext up, is a great infographic from KISSMetrics, the folks who support your Google Analytics with much more…and the infographic they just put out entitled “Bounce Rate Demystified” is a great way to learn about what your bounce rate truly means…and I mean truly and it includes in tips on how to improve same as well as lists of factors contributing to same. Great infographic here, KISSMetrics and they’ve a ton more here too!

fuzzoneLastly up today, is a cool infographic from a British firm called FuzzOne, entitled “The New Face of SEO,” and it purports to tell the viewer all that’s “new” in SEO – by comparison graphics and stats that indicate that regardless of Panda/Penguin, you can still use SEO to increase your site rankings. I know that this is not a truly “new” thought…but the infographic makes a great case as to what they think is “old” and doesn’t “work” anymore….and in studying same, I can see that there are a couple of tactics that I do use that I will need to run some metrics on to see if they’re correct.

Thanks for the link Jim! Eric is great, and I was thrilled that he agreed to take the time for the interview. With all of the junk infographics being released every day, relevance and accuracy can help the best rise to the top.
