Smartphone Supremacy: Who’ll Win and Why to Care
As most of our readers know, we’re very much involved in Snappay, our mobile POS app that is available in the Apple store…and it’s adoption by merchants all across the globe.
But as you’ve just read, we’re available right now ONLY in the Apple store for the iPhone or iPad devices, our Android product is still some bit downstream on our development roadmap…and that got me thinking…
Why would we develop for the Android series of products anyways?
I mean a quick look at the downloads we’ve received over the past quarter show again that the Apple devices hold a commanding lead on any Android section, by like 93% to 7%. While that supremacy is quite a lead that exists today, yes certainly is the realization that because we do not support that last Android OS update as yet, that may have a lot to do with it. But when we did make Snappay available to both devices, again the Apple side was up over the 90% mark..
But, one wonders, there are lots – tons – millions of Android devices out there as a quick google shows for smartphone marketshare numbers….and doing that search led me to the folks over at Monetate, who had a new infographic released just a couple of days ago on just that topic – Smartphone Supremacy - and the click is well worth it to see their designs on what you might want to know about smartphone marketshare.
According to their numbers, taken from comScore, eMarketer and shop.org….the Android universe is listed at 61% of all smartphones sold so far…with Apple at 20.5%…
Hmm….that got us thinking too…about our rationale on why we’re “doing” our Android version…because as you can see, the Android universe is 3 times the size of the Apple one….at least that’s how it appears. Do take that click tho…and read more on same to see how those numbers are “mitigated” when you start to add in shopping, mobile reviews etc….more than enought there to think about – especially for a Canadian SEO firm with an app in the iStore…
And that’s not all the goodies you can find at Monetate either…while I’m still mining the site for more data, I did find this great short eBook entitled “Catering to the Smartphone User,” that I downloaded and read with interest…as I’m involved in exactly that kind of marketing for our Snappay app too!
It’s loaded with some great info on how to optimize your mobile landing page and why such a set of tasks is so important due to the large mobile shopping world out there too!
Again, well worth the click and I’ve added Monetate to my weekly reading list for more data too!
