The Mark Chamberlain DiFIZEN of the Year Award!
It’s not too often that I’m surprised anymore, as at my age I’ve about seen and done most everything when it comes to business – both as a success and as a failure too, here in our wonderful Hamilton community.
But last evening at our Innovation Factory annual event – the Big DiF it’s called, I was totally floored, surprised and yes almost speechless!
For last night, I was awarded the first ever “Mark Chamberlain DiFIZEN of the Year Award!”
To be presented as an annual award, this is said to recognize efforts by a local business owner in “making a big DiF” in Hamilton’s Innovation Community. And last night, it was awarded to me!
It was a surprise of course. As Keanin Loomis, the Innovation Factory’s Chief Advocate spoke about the criteria they judged for the award’s recipient, I was following along with his list and thinking about who I’d give it to here in #HamOnt – and then lo and behold – he called out my name!
Up on the huge digital background screen behind him came up yup, my picture and some very nice commments about both me and my own local based online marketing companies and blogs. And my wife, Susan standing beside me, grinned and gave me a kiss and pushed me to the stage to accept the Award – from Mark Chamberlain himself no less! More on Mark’s own community profile can be found here and his own current business Trivaris found here is one of the community’s leading innovators and perhaps the single driving force behind the formation of our vital Innovation Factory too!
- Links to the Press Release are here by the way.
- Or you can view same notice here on the brand spanking new beautiful Innovation Factory website too!
And as I said earlier here, I was only “almost speechless” but yes I did get to say a few words and while it’s all a blur honestly, what I tried to pass along to the hundreds of business owners present, was that all you need to do is to “give freely with no expectation of any payback” for our own community. Try to do the “right thing the right way” and think of it as your own way of “paying back” your community where you’ve lived and succeded over the past decades. Open up your roll-o-dex and help others freely…and the results are a stronger more vibrant community.
This is all one needs to do. Honest. And I would guess I’m proof of that myownself!
So my heartfelt thanks to the wonderful folks over at our Innovation Factory for their support of our local startup community! #Kudos to you all!
Updates: These pix just in…myself saying “thanks” from the podium and my wife Susan and I with the DiFIZEN of the Year Award itself!
