Lion’s Lair: A $100,000 Hamilton Face-Off!
You heard right! There is $100,000 dollars at stake in Hamilton’s first ever celebration of entrepeneurism – our very own “Lion’s Lair!” Sponsored by both the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and the Innovation Factory the event was just announced here –
“LiON’S LAIR is providing 10 Hamilton companies with the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of top Hamilton business experts in an attempt to solicit up to $100,000 in cash and resources. Besides cash provided by BMO, Carego,City of Hamilton and Cogeco, the available resources include accounting services from KPMG, legal services from Gowlings, marketing services from kitestring creative branding studio, and business services from Trivaris…”
Okay, so that’s what you can win – but who’s in the running? It was my own pleasure to have been asked by the folks over at the Innovation Factory to help yesterday with their “Pitch Workshop” where each of the finalists listed here, worked on their full presentation and their 45 second Elevator Pitch too! And the 10 finalists are —
“The finalists are Anivac Corp., Athelink, Gorilla Cheese, Illumacell Inc., Playlab Inc., Quant Interpretations, TR Research, Verdant Analysis Inc. Vida Holdings Corp., and Weever Apps Inc…”
As you can see, there’s a solid startup list there – and judging by the talent that I met yesterday, this will be a fiercely contested event! Oh…but who are the judges for same you might want to know too, eh! A big “atta boy” to whomever picked these solid Hamiltonians because they’re all very well known, respected and yes…eager to see whose pitch will earn the big prize too! And our 5 Judges are —
“The expert panel – known as the “Lions” – that will ultimately decide which companies receive investments comprises Nick Bontis (McMaster University), Ron Foxcroft (Fox 40 International Inc.), PJ Mercanti (Carmen’s Inc.), Ed Minich (Edsicor Ltd.), and Connie Smith (CTSTV)…”
Over the course of the next few weeks, each of the 10 finalists will be doing more workshops, working with media consultants to fine-tune their on-camera personas and yes, I’m pretty sure having met them all, that they’ll be gnawing their fingernails down to the quick! A prize of $100,000 is nothing to sneeze at, and yesterday I sat thru pitch planning session after session….all the finalists are targeting on finishing first! And that alone is a great way to judge the pulse of business here in Hamilton!
And….they have a website too! Take a quick click on this link – www.pitch-it.ca – and you’ll see that you can read more on each finalist, vote for your own favourite, learn about the Judges too and yes, buy your own tickets for the big Lion’s Lair Gala to be held on Wednesday September 14th at Carmen’s Banquet Centre from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and the link to buy same is here too….and I’d surely think about getting your own set of tickets soon…as this will be the best business event of the year!
So a big Congrats & Kudos to the Hamilton Chamber and our Innovation Factory too! I’ll be there…and so will somone who’ll take home a cheque for $100,000!Google
