Friday SEO PotPourri: Weekly ReCap of Great Items!
Okay, I will admit this right up front…with alligators all around us here in the SEO swamp, we’re trying to finish off some great online marketing tactics for various clients by month’s end…and we’re behind – just a bit, mind you…but our time to broach content on all things SEO wise today is limited!
That said….we did notice the following great pieces by acknowledged SEO practitioners online this week or so…and wanted to share….there’s been some great new strategies and tactics opened up out there…and this is our top three!
First up, is the now famous WhiteBoard Friday posting by Rand over at seomoz.com – and this is pretty much an award winner, eh! Rand like many of us in the SEO world, knows and understands exactly what “article marketing” is all about – and what an awful waste of time and effort and gray matter it is to even “think” it’s truly marketing, eh! Rand in this piece, shows you – and I mean shows you – exactly what this kind of tactic is worth (nada!) and what he thinks such “marketers” are worth too!. Do click that link and watch same…make sure to read the various comments below too…as usual, Rand’s WBF reports gather some great opinions from other online marketers globally! Well worth the click, eh!
The next one I wanted to add today, comes from a new blog that we’ve been following for less than a month, called Google Cache, and it’s apparently run by a Russ Jones who is a Virante.com CTO. Never met the man, never heard of his firm…but judging by the content of this great blog piece here, entitled “Detecting ‘Undetectable’ Link Networks” we are going to long-time followers of this SEO practitioner! Click that link and go….it’s on a topic that only recently we became aware of as a client came to us less than a month ago, asking if we could “vet” the claims being made by an SEO firm in Toronto, that they were using a “secret” Network to game Google and climb the SERP ladder with ease. Made us wonder. We did a pretty simple search using our own software – then clarified same using online tools and yup – total BULLS**T! Do click on Russ’s post to see how he found out much the same, and both of our opinions on just such claims made by “snake-oil” SEO firms…sigh…
Finally today, our link to Ted Ives blog piece is here, entitled “Estimating Organic Search Opportunity: Part I” is here…and I would again recommend a quick click to see what Ted offers for same. You know – and so does every SMB owner, that at some point early on, when you’re considering a new SEO Campaign for your website, the question arises as to exactly how much traffic you can expect…and then you’d use some type of SERP ranking software to vet your campaign and then look at the now expected traffic numbers. What? They don’t match? Using your Google AdWords tool to find “exact” matches and then drill down to LOCAL gives you some numerical expectations, right? Right. Then you start your targeted SEO Campaign, and climb the SERP rankings, right? Right. And the traffic amounts predicted DID NOT materialize even when your SERP ranking positions were achieved, right? RIGHT…and what’s up with that? Give Ted’s link a click and read how this SEO/marketing practitioner worked out his own thoughts on same.
Note – very technical for some…but spot-on content here, folks! And did you notice that this is just Part I…i.e. there’ll be more to come from Ted so bookmark this blog, eh!
