HackerHouse: An Idea for McMaster/Hamilton!
Okay, if you read here often, you know that I’m totally in love with the Velocity model, used by the University of Waterloo to foster entrepeneurship and education and to bring same to undergrads at that fine university.
And what have I so far been able to “do” about that love….so far not too damn much!
I mean I’ve written a blog post on the basic Velocity idea here….and then challenged some Mac admin and professors here and here. Then I added this great idea on the big donation by Kik founder, Ted Livingston of $1,000,000 to the Velocity group to offer up expanded support for student entrepreneurs therein.
A further piece here, outlined the new funded Velocity Venture Funds, that offered up two $25,000 awards from that million bucks and while I asked for help from the few names I had….nada, nothing….dickey-do-dingo!
So….yup, guess what. Waterloo does it again…and their latest foray into entrepeneurism and university is Hacker House! You must go to this site and look over this great, totally privately funded “incubator” for students from either Univ. of Waterloo or Laurier….please do that….
And if you’re a student at either of those fine fine Universitys, the closing date for an application is not until Aug 15th for the upcoming fall semester….and the online app can be found here… and if you even know a student at either school who would be a “fit” for this kind of incubator meme….then pass along that link, eh!
Did I mention that this is totally FREE for the lucky students who make the cut and get a spot at Hacker House! That’s right, not a dime in rent for a year and the chance to work on your own project with other like minded students….how’s that for a real prize! Oh, not to mention the smile on Mom & Dad’s faces when they can forgo that monthly rent cheque on your behalf too!
This is a totally great idea, eh and if only I was going to school…sigh….but I’m your Canadian SEO guy….this is for the young entrepeneur….and I’ll just bet anyone who gets into Hacker House will be someone to watch carefully over the next few years, eh!
And again – “Hello McMaster?” This too is a good idea….maybe at a “size” that someone at Mac can use to get some kind of discussion going on bringing entrepeneurship to our own Hamilton University milieu….I’d gladly take part and I’m sure I can bring some private folks to your boardroom to get some traction on this too….
