InnovationFactory: Lunch’nLearn on Branding Recap!

Our own Hamilton Innovation Factory,  as you will most likely already know, connects and enables active collaboration between the communities of science, business, government, academia and finance to accelerate the innovation process and amplify the economic and social impact of important new ideas and discoveries. And their Lunch ‘n Learn series is outstanding! I said outstanding!
 
Just this past week, I was able to attend (sold out! book earlier is the new mantra for these events!) a very deep and thoughtful one, named “The Power of Image!” and tagged as an hour to learn about “brand essentials for each stage of growth!” And learn we all did! Here’s how the session was explained by the IF folks –
“Your brand image is how people perceive your organization and its products and services.  People buy from you, support you, refer you, join you, partner with you and invest in you based on how they see you. With the mortality rate for start-ups and early stage companies significantly high, innovation-based companies must communicate both their current value and long- term prospects in a quick, compelling and efficient way…”
Canadian branding guru Harry H. Cornelius, Principal, Sideren Inc.,  explored for all of us,  the elements of branding and how these can be used to both shape image and move your organization ahead. It did, for me at least and many of the folks around me, challenge some common preconceptions about the role of product and technology in defining value. And Harry spoke at some length too, about “enterprise” level branding and image….and value story too. All very helpful to us in the audience as too often, “branding” experts present only items for startups….and while yes, this was covered, it was at the upper levels that I was most impressed with the depth of the info passed along! Kudos Harry!

Harry has over 25 years of brand consulting, and client-side operations and marketing experience.  Prior to forming Sideren, Harry was a partner in Cornelius Jacobson and principal of the brand-consulting firm Cornelius & Co. In this capacity he was resident Director of Corporate Identity and Branding at Ove Design and Communications Ltd., part of Publicis Canada. Harry also served as the resident Director of Strategic Services for Gottschalk+Ash International.  Harry’s branding work in technology includes projects for: 724 Solutions, Catharsis Managed IT Cebra, Classwave Wireless, Clineo Medical Systems, Dejero, ePost (Canada Post), Innovation Factory, IPICO, Platform Computing, Sapphire Digital Health, Teranet, Univeris, Walgo/Omnego and Workbrain.
