Enchantment:A GREAT Book Review, eh!

Okay, about a month or so ago, I was asked if I would review the new book by Guy Kawasaki, entitled “Enchantment” on the art of changing hearts, minds and action – and I said yes in less than a heartbeat, eh!

Disclaimers first tho… I have never ever “met” Guy in person, ie shaken his hand or conversed with him in public. However, I have heard him speak twice – once at a big event in San Francisco years back and then just a few years ago up here in Waterloo, at a big conference held by Communitech!

He’s a thrilling speaker in that yes, there are planned items to cover but it’s the ‘ad-libs’ that he adds about items that ‘pop-up’ that are stellar! Oh, I’ve also conversed with him via emails on trips to San Francisco and could he recommend a great restaurant (my wife’s 50th birthday trip) and on other online stuff, so yes, I do have his email addy…and for a guy IMHO who’s at the top of his game and leading a very very busy life, he’s as pleasant and gives-back like we all should. I like Guy, I’d have to say.

That said, my time this past weekend was spent on the reading, re-reading, researching URLs from the book and in general, nodding so much at what I read that I should be wearing a neck brace. Guy has once again, captured a thematic vision on what’s needed by us all, to interact to gain traction, marketing traction as I read it, to help your brand, your firm, your website and yes, yourself to be successful!

There are a whole bunch of ideas and themes covered and the actual table of contents alone shows the reader the path that Guy takes in explaining how to achieve true online success….and a link to that TOC is here if you’d like to see same, along with much other info on the book itself too! And like all good marketers, yes there is a well subscribed Facebook page on this book here too.

Preparing to launch an “enchantment” campaign to try to capture hearts and minds as you build your community can be a daunting process for sure! But Guy tears it down into sizeable “counsel chunks” that enable the reader to understand the how-to’s in such a way that you actually have a shot at this!

I especially liked the whole chapter on “How to Achieve Trustworthiness” and the parts on baking a bigger pie! Now that’s astute, Guy and it’s already got me thinking about re-positioning a couple of projects. And when I coupled it with the “How to Achieve Likability”  and the length of a handshake and crow’s feet…I’m both happy that I already was in that camp and now know that others “see” some of the basics the same way I do! Spot-on Guy!

Further exploration and fine detailed reading on the chapters on “How to Use Pull Technology” and the part about “Facebook is for show and LinkedIN is for dough” made me sit right up and take notice of same, eh! We often speak on Social Media, both the whole use of same from a marketing POV and the positioning of LinkedIN as THE way to gain some launch traction wasn’t new to us, but again in reinforced our own beliefs and hopefully will teach and educate clients on the value of same, eh!

So…is this a good read? Yes. Is this a book that you can use to learn “how to launch?” Yes. Is this a book that has much in the way of anecdotal comments, asides, other POV’s? Yes. Simply put, Enchantment follows on the same tradition that other books from Guy follow….solid useable advice and how-to’s backed by counsel that works….i.e. marketing made simple!

Click that link in our opening paragraph and reserve a copy over at Amazon to see what I mean. Can’t be any plainer than that, eh!
