Over at DIYSEO.com, the folks there haven’t been posting many blog pieces in the last few months, but the one that went up just last night, is dang good, eh!

If you think about it at all, you’d have to come to the realization that the keywords that you target are VERY important to your rankings, to your prospective customers or clients and most importantly, to develop new revenue streams. Keyword research then is just about the basic foundation for any SEO Campaign and really it requires much thought, research, testing and then yes, even some VooDoo to get a handle on what works for you and your site!

It’s not easy. It’s not quick. It’s not fun. It’s not to be thought lightly of, either. It’s dang hard, long work to come up with say the top 25 or 100 or whatever number of keywords/phrases that will work for you and your site. What you’re doing, of course, is trying to sit in the seat of that prospective customer or client of yours, and use your best thoughtful work to come up with what they will use to find you.

As this infographic shows and uses the example of a lawyer, the process to find what you think are those top targeted keywords is a process. Note that the creators of this infographic have very much simplified same, but in fact, this is just about what we all do for this kind of an SEO client….we link together various words to become short phrases that we believe will bring those new leads to our site.

And is there a sidenote here too….yup, keyword phrases have their own “best practices” too, eh….

Note that the use of a 3 word keyword phrase is still just about the best way to aid your targeting too, and we reported as have others on that strong best practices research too…where we said the following —

“As you can see, their sample is just over 40 million hits and for that statistically, they found that a three word phrase ranked up at the top for over 25% of those hits! The next top word counts were two-word (19%), four-word (17%), and finally one-word (14%).  Any query beyond five words will see dramatically lower traffic, throwing into perspective just how fragmented traffic from long queries really is….for those of you who think that a nine word long tail keyphrase has some “power” we note as they did, that such a length is well past the “sweet spot” eh, especially here for Canadian SEO campaigns!”

So, stay in the “sweet spot” and get your keyword research working for you….there’s new customers and clients out there, eh…all you gotta do is sit in their seat to understand what it is they’re looking for and then use same, eh!
