2010 & Hope: Our Stats World changes Quickly, eh!

As a blogger for only a short 12 months now or so, I’m not really into the “normal” flow of blogs at this time of year. That is, I’ve just been reading and researching SEO tactics a la Google, and while the changes are quick and encompassing, the speed that they happen at is the real surprise….but I digress a bit. What I mean to say is that after blogging research, I see that many of us SEO practitioners do a year-end wrap-up of what they’ve learned/done/practiced SEO wise and what they recap is historical.

Not me. I dont want to look back because to be totally honest, it’s been one hell of a year trying to “hit the target” for our SEO clients as Google et al moved the dang target time and time and time again! That said, we did okay by our clients and they’re all better now in December/10 than they were SEO wise in December/09. My life – our client’s life, is a full plateful of statistics and analytics and SEO strategy based tactics….and all the Excel spreadsheet phobias be damned. We still live and breathe stats, eh!

But again, I digress….because what I’m thinking about this Monday morning is not at all historical, but then again, it’s about world history it appears. You see I got this great youTube link from a friend — Jim Ashley is a dear old friend who I grew up with more than 50 years ago. We attended elementary and then high schools together then drifted apart but re-newed that friendship I think about 5 years ago and that’s a damn fine thing!

In any event, Jim sent me this link, and I wanted to share it right here with you all, and it’s a great 4 minute vid from a Swedish professor named Hans Rosling, and you must watch this….it’s the history of the world’s nations and it’s so dang well done, that I’ve now watched it 6 times…trying to track various countries over the past 200 years.

But why? Why did I take the time and space here to report on this? Well, as I said, I wanted to look FORWARD rather than BACKWARD at this time of year, unlike most of the other thousands of bloggers out there in December….but that’s not the major reason. When I think of this planet, I too, like many of us at my age, have memories of Indian Ocean tsunamis, Haitian earthquakes and SARs….and such thoughts, I will admit, weigh heavliy on my own thinking of the “general” health of this planet and all human life.

Then along comes this vid…and I watch….and I’m honestly uplifted quite a bit. I see — using Hans skill and stats — that in reality, while yes, disasters do occur, overall, much of life here on our planet is getting better for folks all over the globe. Oh sure, I know that wars and famines and droughts still exist and yes disease and hate still exists…but this video is surely one of the best ways for me to be reminded, that the future is brighter…and that as stats show, we can learn and take control of our future.

Honestly. Watch this video. And hope….
