NO SPAM SEOs, eh!

You know, if you read here that I occasionally find something that bugs the hell outta me, and I rant on same, right?

Then get ready for another “Rick Mercer” ride, canucks!

Got this email below in it’s entirety….sent to me this am…and I read it and the air was “blue” around my desk for about an hour! And yes, as you’ll note I’ve xxxx’d out the actual link information on the email — both I suppose to block the googlebot from picking up same and giving ANY mention of the site to anyone who inadvertantly bumps into these idiots as well as a thoughtful reminder that as a canuck, I try to never ever “out” idiots by name….sigh….polite is as polite does, eh!

Hello Webmaster,
Today I have visited your site

Our link information is as follows

Thanks & Regards…

Idiot SEO poser!

Come on, man! Really?

Are you that “out of touch” with all things SEO wise that you still believe that this kind of infraction of the Google TOS will NOT result in a penalty when found (note, I said when…as I’d think you’re spamming out hundreds if not thousands of these kind of SPAM SEO link requests, you idiot!)? Are you also that far behind the curve of what works to think that Google has NOT yet understood that this kind of reciprocal or 3-way linking will not be found? That their googlebot is too stupid to notice? That they might notice, but NOT hold it against you — or any of the other sites you con into joining you in this penalty-rife infraction? That you do not have a single competitor, a single SEO client competitor or even a pissed off ex employee who doesn’t know that this is rampant in your business model and wont turn you in to Google themselves? Are you that naive that such a penalty, issued to both you AND your clients will not result in lessening traffic and a suddenly disappearing ROI for those clients? Are you that much of an “I dont care I’m only after the get-rich-quick type of business” model that you put your clients in jeoprady?

SIGH…and I mean a big bloody SIGH here…..this is exactly the kind of idiotic SEO spam that seems to be coming to us more and more….and to be honest, maybe I shouldn’t have blocked the identity of this idiot. I did take a 2 minute look/see at their site and yup, it’s about as polished and professional as an average SEO site can be…but I did  catch this short paragraph on their search engine optimsation page –

“All our techniques and methods used in the development and the implementation of our ethical SEO are tried and tested techniques. These have been used by our own websites and client’s websites for many years and have gained us with very valuable results. We have always stayed with the guidelines set out by the search engines ensuring that we never use or will use any unethical methods on client’s websites…”

Talk about bullshit, eh! They say one thing to the world via their webpages….and then break just such ethics when they go behind a client’s back to ask for links….sigh…what a waste of time for them and their clients!

Update: Just got another one of those spammy SEO backlink requests…this new SEO group call their method “triangular linking” but it’s the same old spammy SEO tactic, eh! What  total waste of time — and for their clients a total ROI loser, eh!

hmmm…. so how hard is it for them to add your name, i mean it won’t improve the chance that I will approve the link request but its just nice to read “Dear Jim” instead of “Dear Webmaster”…

So are they highlighting a new place where they are placing links in the WP login screen and no longer on the “links” page? Isn’t the WP admin sections usually not crawled or indexed as specifed in the standard robots.txt file?

So how much benefit is a crap link from a non-indexed, non-crawled part of their site?

  2. You must have been living a charmed life over there Jim, I’ve been regularly plagued with that type of crap for years. If I still got as annoyed with it as I used to I’d have an ulcer by now.

It only feels like there’s less of it now because there’s so much of the other type of spam from Indian companies wanting me to outsource all my work to them, or want to get me high-quality hand-crafted link. Yeah, right.

Keep those filters well-tuned Jim, and stay calm ;-)

    cheers
    Bill

  3. Jim says:

@David — thanks for the comment, David…and while being referred to as ‘webmaster’ aint personal, what that does is tell me that they’ve pounded out thousands of spams to webmasters all over the globe….ie it’s a definite spam tell-tale, eh! and as far as the WP notes you made, sure…WP can provide some security, but as you noted a link from a crap spot on a crap site is worth….well…crap, eh! :-)

@Bill — yup, we get lotsa these, but I thought it was time just to say so publically…and yup MOST are from offshore idiots and MOST are useless, timewasting reads…so my filters use bayesians with words like “hand crafted links” etc to send ‘em all to a folder…and I dump same after a quick glance at Subjects once a week. last week I had 13 of these…sigh….what idiots, eh!

    :-)

    Jim

  4. Dan says:

    Jim oh Jim…
What can I say? Here I was catching up with your blog, saying how great it is to see you write calmly and professionally, and then your rant came along. :P
It’s as professional as they come, but I think we’ll agree on it not being a very calm piece of text.
I just wonder why I haven’t received such “offers” yet.
