Breaking News: Bub-bye Yahoo!

Well, the official “merge” tween BING and Yahoo is complete for the search engine results…

And Yahoo search is no more….

And the POWERED BY BING tag is now in the yahoo.ca footer too….

Announced just this am by Yahoo here…the skinny on same is pretty concise and brief

Today I am happy to share that Bing is powering Yahoo!’s search results in the US and Canada (English only for now, the other languages will come in the weeks and months ahead)…”

The rest of the notice speaks to the adCenter updates and merging of same, and the Yahoo comments ends with the note that the “transition has gone smoothly…” but I wonder? Oh well, at least now there’s really only two search engines that count anymore….

Just wish I and the rest of the SEO world knew exactly what will happen with Yahoo Search Explorer, eh?

Hardly breaking news, unless for some reason, Yahoo Canada was particularly slow. Dojo Radio talked about this on their last show, at some length.

Maybe that’s were Bing heard it. ;)

@DocCampbell — you can’t be a canuck, Doc! Yes, yahoo.ca was the last part of the NA Yahoo search farms to be rolled into the BING index. This was reported by us back on Aug 19th — and just this am the “roll-in” was announced by Yahoo themselves at the link I provided in the posting.

And yes our posting was same day as Dave’s Dojo Radio show….

Not trying to pick a fight, Doc…but trying to point out that us canucks are both pretty used to being ‘last’ when it comes to mostly everything on the continent and ‘first’ to notice that bias too!

  3. That’s true – there’s only two engines to keep an eye on now! Although I know of Google’s search engine domination, I’m curious to see if Bing+Yahoo (Bihoo? Yahing?) will bring anything new to the floor.

  4. Jim says:

@Zunaria….my exact same thought…only I’d call the new “merged” search engine – Bing-ahoo!

Yup. Only 2 really now to concern yourself with, in an SEO Campaign…makes me wonder how those “we submit to over 1000 search engines” folks keep a straight face when they try to sell those phony services, eh!

  5. Wow as dumb as it sounds..I’ve never heard of this actually. I knew there was going to be a merge of some sort but I didnt know it was final. Thanks for the quality info

These posts all say August 24, 2010. Either I just had a really good siesta and I’m mistaken, or the time is wrong on your blog my friend!

    Either way, happy new year!

  7. Mike says:

heh I blame the siesta: this is an older post you reposted on Twitter ;D

  8. Mike says:

No wonder you’re number one on Google :)

  9. Jim says:

@Mike…the blog tool I use to publish older blog articles is called “Tweet Old Post” — it’s a pretty simple plugin that you setup to re-tweet or re-facebook older blog articles you’ve already done…here —

    http://www.ajaymatharu.com/wordpress-plugin-tweet-old-posts/

works pretty successfullly and always gets us some visitor traffic and comments on older articles too….ie I like it!
