Upstream Canuck Retail Visits are UP!
Upstream retails visits by us Canadians are up and the numbers are looking good! Hitwise Intelligence reports that we “Canadians are heavy users of search engines and as we see in most markets, Search Engines are the top source of upstream visits to retail websites.”
It appears that in June last, a bit more than 1/3 of all upstream visits to Shopping and Classified websites and domains came from search engines, tho that is down from last years June 2009 numbers of 39%. This is about a 15% decline, and like others in the SEO world, we wondered what was making ups the difference?
The chart that Heather Hopkins, the reports author, showed in their blog posting shows the sources for our Canadian visits to retail sites in June 2010 compared to June 2009 and as can be seen in the chart, there is a slight increase in Shopping, Classifieds, Social Networks and Business & Finance too.
As Hitwise reports and here you can see,
“…The largest increase among these top industries was from Social Networks, up 37% year over year. Last week, the top downstream Shopping and Classifieds websites downstream from Facebook.com were mainly Classifieds websites (eBay Canada, various Kijiji and Craigslist city websites). Also among the top 30 were Sears Canada, Avon Canada, Amazon Canada, Ticketmaster Canada, and Walmart Canada. This is an interesting mix of retailers, and not necessarily those you’d expect to be getting the most downstream traffic from Facebook. Stay tuned for more on social networking and retailing in Canada…”
So, what does that mean for us SEO types? Well, I for one am staying tuned to Hitwise to learn more…these numbers are intriguing and Hitwise can provide more data a lot better than I can…so yes, stay tuned, eh!Google
